USA RUGBY - The sport or rugby, excluded from the Olympics in the early 1900s, enjoyed a renaissance, in the 1960 and 1970s. This created the need for a national governing body to represent the USA in the international rugby community. Four territorial organizations gathered in Chicago , Ill. , in 1975 and formed the United States of America Rugby Football Union (now known as USA Rugby). Today, USA Rugby is made up of seven Territorial Unions (TUs) and 37 Local Area Unions (LAUs),and supports more than 50,000 members. www.usarugby.org MARFU - The Mid Atlantic Rugby Football Union was incorporated on August 10, 1994 in the State of Delaware and comprises three of the Local Area Unions who were formerly members of USA Rugby East (a/k/a the Eastern Rugby Union); Eastern Pennsylvania, Potomac and Virginia. The states which comprise MARFU are: Pennsylvania , New Jersey , Delaware , Maryland , Virginia and the District of Columbia Membership figures are the highest in the nation in terms of the number of players in a Territorial Union. Over 6,000 players belong to approximately 160 rugby clubs. www.marfu.org EPRU - The EPRU is comprised of clubs in Eastern & Central Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey and Delaware . Some of the country's most successful coaching, refereeing and medical clinics are organized and conducted by the EPRU.
